Mother’s Day in the Park at Reed Bingham State Park

As a nature-loving, camping, glamping outdoor family, we do a lot of traveling to state parks on school breaks and in summer, and one of our favorite parks that are located in Adel, Georgia is Reed Bingham State Park. It’s worth the several hours it takes to get there and even though I know I’m going to have to endure hundreds of complaints of “are we there yet” from the kids, the minute we pull up at the park, we all get as excited as a kid at Christmas. There’s so much to do at this 1,613-acre park and a day can feel like mere minutes when we’re trying to take it all in.

I was trying to decide where to take the kids Saturday when I discovered that Reed Bingham State Park is hosting a Mother’s Day in the Park. I’m sure it will be an event to remember. From paddle boating in the 375-acre lake to a private animal show, there’s going to be something to please everyone.

We always rent bikes when we visit because it’s so much easier than trying to load all of our bikes up. There are hiking trails where we can explore mother nature at its finest.  I always pack hiking sticks to make our hike easier. When we get tired of riding, we hop off and walk ways.

You can’t go without trying your hand at canoeing or paddleboat riding. There are gators in the lake as there are just about anywhere there is a body of water, so be cautious of them while you’re out taking in the scenery. We seldom ever see one and the only ones we’ve seen have been a good distance away.

One of the kid’s favorite things to do at Reed Bingham State Park is to play putt-putt. They’d play all day and night if there weren’t so many activities going on to choose from.

The kids also enjoy swimming at the beach area and again, I want to caution against the gators. Always be cautious around water if gators are a concern and even if they aren’t. If it sounds like I have a gator phobia it’s because I do, lol.

Make time to check out their “Turtle, Tortoise or Terrapin” program. We always make a game of seeing how many gophers we can find. Every year they release gopher tortoise hatchlings and the kids have a great time trying to find them in their homes.

There are turtles in the water too so be watching for them where ever you are. These happen to be my favorite aquatic turtles which are yellow belly slider turtles.

  • 1 Beach Pavilion
  • 4 Group Shelters
  • 1 Pioneer Camp
  • 1 Camp Island Paddle-In

I’ve skimmed the surface of what all you can do at Reed Bingham State Park but there’s so much more, from fishing to geocaching to playing volleyball. I seriously doubt you’ll be able to do it all in one day (we’ve yet to) so you’re going to want to spend the weekend. There’s no better place to be whether you’re on a budget or not.
