I love holidays and special occasions but there is just something about Valentine’s Day that gets me in the mood for … creativity. I’ve put together some simple bohemian themed Valentine’s Day date night ideas that won’t break the budget.
My first suggestion can be made the day before or several days before and it’s so easy, you’ll wonder why you’ve been spending a fortune for candy on Valentine’s Day. It only takes 2 ingredients to make and will satisfy your sweethearts sweet tooth (and yours because we all know that nibbling is a part of cooking and I DARE you to eat just one). I make this all year long and when I want to treat myself, I omit my sugar substitute in my coffee and and plop one of these in instead.
Mini loaf or bite size; I cut mine into squares. Imperfect squares, but squares none the less.
2 cups of sugar
1/3 cup of water
Bring to a boil on medium in a sauce pan and stir until clearish. Pour 1/3 to 1/2 into a greased loaf pan. It depends on how thick you want your candy to be.
I put it in the fridge overnight, the next day, I turned my caramel upside down to remove. All that was left was to cup up my bites and wrap with boho themed tissue paper. I usually fine mine at Zazzle or Amazon. Martha Stewart has a cute pack perfect for this project.
They look good and taste incredible. The caramels are NOT chewy, they are more of a crisp but not hard, consistency. The kids have had some expensive dental work. Alyssa had an accident at the fair while resulted in a cap and Abby has had a couple of oopsies so chewy is out of the question when I make anything for the kids.
If you are going to stay in for the night, candles are a must. It’s easy to create a boho romantic atmosphere with some dollar store candles. If you want to spend a little more for your candles to make them last through the night, you might want to go with some 10 hour candles which come in a set of 72 on Amazon. Burn some now and save some for later. As for me, I bought some cheap vases at our thrift store that I’ve been painting and decorating, They are turning out adorable. A little paint, burlap, twine and beads can give just about anything a boho look. I’ve got some silver taper candles left over from Christmas that are going to pair perfectly with my vases.
However you decide to display your candles, a little creativity can go a long way. There’s no right or wrong way. Unless you burn the house down. That would be the wrong way.
Of course you’ll want to make a boho fabric heart shaped wreath before the big day. I shaped mine out of a clothes hanger, tore strips of fabric and tied them in a knot on my hanger. I added in a few pieces of vintage lace and I think it turned out pretty sweet. I purchased several yards of shabby chic material on Etsy but you can find smaller sizes of material just about anywhere online.

Don’t forget the fireplace. If you have an indoor fireplace, you can decorate the mantel by putting feathers in jars or even decorate with some pompoms as below. Sometimes more is less and other times less is more.

Another favorite boho idea I adore is lighted letters. I’m obsessed with them. If you don’t have any, click on the image source link below the photo to see how you can resolve that.

As a child I used to have so much fun giving and receiving Valentine’s cards and that’s what I decided I’m going to do this year. You can find them at the dollar store or anywhere really and it doesn’t get cheaper than that. I’ve decided to purchase some vintage cards from eBay to hand out that are truer to my age than today’s “SpongeBob” cards.

You’ll want to go ahead and start thinking about what movie or movies you want to watch if you’ll be spending time at home with your sweetheart. I’ll be watching Nights in Rodanthe which I haven’t watched yet but came highly recommended by my mom. Popcorn and cuddles to follow.
That’s all for today but sure to stay tuned and don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss my next boho theme Valentine’s Day date night ideas post.
