Understand your climate
Where you live will have a major impact on what you can grow. While some flowers need a warm, dry climate to thrive, others will flourish in damp and drizzly conditions. Choosing the wrong plants means you’re fighting a losing battle from the start, so be sure you’re trying to grow plants that are suited to the climate.
In addition to this, it’s important to pay attention to the type of soil that’s in your yard. This can vary dramatically, even within a relatively small region, but it has a major impact on what will grow and what nourishment it needs.
Prioritize your soil
If your soil is of a poor quality, you’re going to struggle to grow anything at all. To ensure your lawn, shrubs and plants can flourish, you need to keep your soil healthy. Fortunately, this is easier than you think. Traditionally, people relied on core aerators to increase the number of nutrients that could permeate the soil.
For today’s gardeners, there’s an easier way to keep your lawn in tip-top condition. A liquid soil aerator takes the hard work out of maintaining your garden. Don’t overplant
If you want to fill your garden with colorful plants and healthy shrubs, it’s easy to start overplanting. However, most plants will grow far larger than they are when you buy them. If you plant too many shrubs or flowers in close proximity to one another, they will be unable to flourish. With limited access to nutrients and water, they simply won’t be able to thrive if they are too close together. In addition to this, plants that require sunlight could be kept in the shade by nearby plants, which will cause them to die.
Although you may be keen to fill your garden with plants in full bloom right away, overplanting isn’t the way to go about it. Instead, plan a season ahead or buy your plants when they are already in bloom.
Plan your garden maintenance
Choosing high-maintenance plants means you’re going to need to dedicate a lot of time to keeping them healthy. If you have the time to devote to your garden, then this can be a satisfying and fulfilling hobby. If you’re short on time or simply don’t want to spend too much time maintaining your garden, steer clear of anything that requires intensive maintenance.
Instead, look for low maintenance plants, such as hardy perennials. These will still look great but will minimize the amount of time you need to spend keeping your garden in good condition.
Don’t forget to water
Even if you live in an area that receives a lot of rainfall, you may need to water your garden regularly. In general, it’s best to do this when your garden isn’t in direct sunlight, as watering at this time could cause the leaves to burn. As different plants require varying amounts of water, be sure to do your research and prevent overwatering too.
Keeping Your Garden in Full Bloom
If you want to enjoy a flourishing garden all year round, you’ll need to plan what you plant and when you do it. While some plants will retain their leaves throughout the winter months, others will only bloom in spring and summer.
