The Practical Guide to Festival Fashion

The Practical Guide to Festival Fashion

When it comes to festival fashion there is undoubtedly a place for a flowery, flowing maxi dress, cute crocheted ponchos, and gorgeous flower garlands, but there is also a very big place for more practical garments too, at least there is if you want to be comfortable and fully enjoy the experience anyway.

That’s why, in this post, I’m going to take a look at the practical side of festival fashion…

Layers

When you’re heading to a festival, layers are your best friend. Not only do they help you to create a unique look, but they help to keep you at the right temperature too. So, be sure to pack lots of vests and tank tops, t-shirts, plaid shirts, ponchos, and scarves, so that if it’s cold you can layer up and if it heats up, you can remove stuff until you feel as comfortable as possible. The scarves will also help you to disguise your hair when it starts to get greasy after a few days in the field.

Gumboots and Slipper Shoes

When you’re living it up at a festival, you are going to be spending a lot of time on your feet. Not only that, but if the weather isn’t great, the field could end up wet and muddy, and that’s why although sandals may look cute, and you should pack some for the good weather, you also need to be practical and pack a pair of felt slippers or some comfy Toms which will keep your feet dry and comfy. You’ll also want to take a pretty pair of patterned gumboots to ensure that you can wade through those potentially muddy fields with ease.

Mac in a Sac

This should be a pretty standard thing to pack when attending any festival, but so many people do not think to pack them opting for cool biker jackets or easy-going utility jackets instead  – that’s all well and good until the rain starts to pour. When the rain comes down, you’ll be glad to have packed a mac in a sac that you can unfold and put on at a second’s notice. Rain might not be forecast, but you should prepare for any eventualities!

Leave the Designer Stuff at Home

You might see the likes of Sofia Richie and Frances Bean Cobain rocking up to Coachella wearing extremely expensive designer clothing, but unless you have the same kind of money to throw around like them, you’re probably going to want to leave your most expensive clothes at home. Why? Because festivals can get pretty dirty. If it isn’t muddy or wet, it could be dusty and it certainly gets sweaty, then there are the people spilling beer all over you in the crowd to consider. No, festivals aren’t really the best place to show off your Sunday best!

Crossbody Bags

If you don’t want to lose your money or your phone at the festival, but you don’t want to be seen with a fanny pack either (although they are quite fashionable in some circles right now), and you want to be hands-free as often as possible, a small crossbody bag will be your best friend.

Of course, you can dress fashionably at festivals, but you should pack some comfortable clothing to make life easier for you, too.
