What To Do If You Hate The Cold

If you’re somebody who hates the cold weather, you’re not alone. A lot of people really dislike it when temperatures plunge during the wintertime. The good news, though, is that there are a lot of things that you can do from wearing thicker clothes to sorting out your home. Here’s everything you need to know:

Lay out your clothes

If you haven’t mastered the art of layering yet, the winter is a time to learn. During this part of the year, you can prevent heat from escaping your body and retain more of its warmth. You want to start with some sweat-proof, moisture-wicking base layer and then add to that. If you can add fleecy mid-layers and then an outer shell which protects you against the wind, it can keep you warm even when there are gusts at negative temperatures. Then make sure you deal with all of your extremities:

  • Your feet by wearing extra thick socks
  • Your hands by wearing gloves
  • Your neck by wearing a scarf

Create a cozy indoor sanctuary

Next on your list of things to do is to create a cosy indoor sanctuary. You want to make sure that your home is set up so that it not only is warm but also feels warm.

First of all, start by contacting HVAC companies in your area to check that your furnace is working properly. If you want to crank up the heat even more in a specific room, then it might be a good idea to order a space heater. You can also stock up on things like blankets and candles. Keeping a coffee machine or hot drinks option in your living room as well as your kitchen can also be a good way to create an additional sense of warmth and give you the comfort you want.

If conditions are really too bad for you, then you might want to just simply leave and go and get some winter sun. Traveling to a warmer part of the country, warmer part of the world, or going to a different hemisphere enables you to escape the winter months entirely.

If you’re in North America, then going to South America is a great option. You can also go anywhere in the tropics because these destinations are warm all year round.

Exercise indoors

A lot of people feel the urge to exercise outdoors even when the weather is cold, but if you’re somebody who really feels it or if you have a thyroid problem, then it may be better just to hit the gym indoors. Going for a workout inside raises your core body temperature significantly and makes you feel like it’s the summer even if it’s really, really cold.

Eat warm soups

Finally, if you are somebody who still feels cold, then you might want to make yourself some nice warm soups during the winter. There are all sorts of options from tomato to broccoli and Stilton, just pick one that you enjoy.
