For most people, they usually either have a physical or a mental to-do list always running. However, just because you have a list of the things that you need to get done doesn’t necessarily make it any easier for you to actually accomplish these things. In fact, for many people, the wrong type of to-do lists can often be so overwhelming that no action even gets taken.

Assign Each Task A Time To Start

One of the general problems with to-do lists is that that list is often just a set of goals or objectives that need to get done. However, to-do lists often don’t allow for a lot of planning to take place, which is what many people need when they’re trying to actually make progress with their to-do list.

To put this into practice, what can help you in knocking things off of your to-do list is to assign a starting time to each task that you have. If you set a time during the day for the things that you’re wanting to accomplish, like one thing will begin at ten in the morning and you’ll start on something else at three in the afternoon, this can help you to actually strategize the execution of these tasks and make some progress on them.

Make Your List More Specific

Something else that you can do that can have a positive impact on accomplishing tasks on your to-do list is to break your tasks down into smaller, most doable tasks rather than just leaving your main objective on your to-do list.

As part of this, you’ll want to look at each task on your to-do list and think about what you need to do in a step-by-step process to get that task done. For something like renovating your bathroom, this could include breaking down the task into things like retiling the shower, installing a new bathtub stopper, finding a new vanity, painting the walls, and more.

To-do lists can often get unwieldy when too many things get put onto them. But when you have things that need to get done, you can’t just leave things off of your to-do list.

What you can do, however, is create more lists based on when certain tasks need to get done. For example, you can have daily to-do lists for things that are more vital while also having weekly or monthly to-do lists as well. As long as you remember to move some of your weekly or monthly tasks onto your daily to-do list, tasks should have a higher likelihood of getting completed.
