How to Make Moving Hassle-Free

Moving to a new home can be both a joy and a hassle. It’s all exciting and very daunting at the same time.

Whether you are relocating across town or you are moving to a different location altogether the entire process will need to involve a lot of careful planning. You need to be as organized as possible in order to execute everything you need to do effectively.

Start With a Plan

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a plan for your move. Be sure it is as detailed as possible. Set timelines for everything that you are going to do.

There will be a lot of tasks to complete and by knowing exactly when you will be finished with each task, you will be better able to predict how successful you will be at being fully prepared for your move.

A checklist will be very helpful here so make sure you have one ready.

Declutter and Organize

Before you start packing one of the most important things you’re going to need to do is declutter the space that you are now in. Moving requires that you evaluate your belongings and decide what you really need.

You don’t want to be dragging things you do not need with you to your new destination. Make sure that you sift through each room and categorize your items by what you truly need.

You can sort by donate, sell or discard. Consider putting some of your things in storage if you don’t want to get rid of them but want to keep them for use at a future date.

Pack Wisely

One of the things you must make sure that you’re doing is to pack wisely. Start with all the items you’re not going to use daily.

This may include things that you use seasonally such as decorations, books and clothing. Get some sturdy boxes and bubble wrap as well as packaging paper to protect everything that you own.

Make sure you label the boxes correctly. You don’t want to reach your new location and be scratching your head trying to figure out which box contains which items.

This is a nightmare and can lead to frustration in your new home. Do not make your boxes too heavy or you’re going to be stuck having to deal with lifting them and this can be brutal on your back and cause injury.

Hire Movers or DIY

Somewhere along the line, you’re going to have to make a decision about whether or not you want to hire professional movers or go the DIY route all the way. No doubt hiring movers is going to save you a lot of time and stress.

It will also prevent you from having to lift heavy items and this can result in damage to the items or yourself. However, movers can cost a pretty penny depending on where you’re going, so it might be worth it to go it alone with some help.
