How I Accidentally Became a Small Business Guru (Sort Of)

Let me tell you a little secret. I never meant to get into the business side of blogging. I started off with a love for cozy spaces, pretty things, and a desire to share every candle I ever lit and curtain I ever rehung. But somewhere between tea parties and thrift store hauls, this blog turned into a full-blown business.

Don’t get me wrong. I still believe in bubble baths and boho pillows, but let’s talk real life for a second. In 2025, small businesses are not just booming, they’re blooming. People are embracing what I like to call heart-first hustles. Whether you’re selling handmade earrings on Etsy, flipping furniture in your garage, or building a brand on Instagram, the rulebook is out the window.

And guess what? That’s a good thing.

Here are a few small business vibes I’m totally loving right now:

Authenticity is the new marketing plan.

Forget polished perfection. People want to see the behind-the-scenes chaos, the late-night snack-fueled brainstorming, and the truth behind the sparkle. It’s okay if your product photos are taken on your kitchen table. That makes you relatable, not unprofessional.

Your vibe is your brand.

Gone are the days of stiff logos and robotic email templates. Your business should sound like you. Talk like you. Look like you. I’m out here using glitter fonts and saying “y’all” in every newsletter. And guess what? The people who love it are my people.

Sustainability is stylish.

Whether it’s packaging, product sourcing, or your actual offerings, people are loving eco-conscious brands. You don’t need to be perfect, just thoughtful. A little intention goes a long way.

Micro is mighty.

You don’t need a million followers or a massive shop to make an impact. The tiniest online shop, the smallest service, the quietest podcast, if it’s created with purpose, it can grow.

It’s okay to change your mind.

Tried something that didn’t work? Join the club. All the cool kids are pivoting. I’ve had more blog categories come and go than I have throw pillows, and that’s saying something.

I never set out to be a business owner. But here I am, invoices, emails, affiliate links and all, and I’m loving every messy minute of it. If you’re sitting on an idea, or if you’ve already dipped your toes in the business world, let me just say this: you’ve got this. If I can turn candle reviews into income, you can absolutely turn your passion into something that works for you.

Cheers to cozy dreams, cute spreadsheets, and building something that makes your soul do a happy dance.
