Aren’t dogs so amazing? Take a second now to just reflect on how incredible these four-legged champions really are. For centuries, man has depended on dogs for a myriad of reasons and uses. Their assistance is priceless in airports, with the police force and even in wars. They help with the Coastguard in search and rescue work. They help on farms with all kinds of herding work. Dogs can lead the blind, retrieve items for disabled people and they are great for the mental health of their owners. The list goes on and on, and to add to all, that they will relentlessly defend your home – better than many home security systems out there. Now, take your hats off to these three dogs (and all dogs for that matter) whose fearlessness and strength can be relied on everyday.
1. Rottweiler

These confident and courageous canines originated from Germany and were used for herding farm animals. They are very loyal and affectionate (only to their owners, mind you), and their instincts are one of the sharpest with quick reactions, which means that they can take on ‘anything’ – be it an intruder, an animal, or even the vacuum cleaner! On the flip side, Rottweilers have a dominant, overbearing personality, they shed a lot and are very destructive around the house so thorough puppy training will be needed as early as possible.

2. Akita
These large working dogs originated from the Japanese mountains, and were used for fighting during wartime. They have great stamina and are bold and confident enough to deter any burglar. With constant training, they can settle well into a family, but their stubbornness and aggression make them difficult to manage. This makes the Akita unsuitable for first-time dog owners.

3. German Shepherd
Also known as Alsatians, these dogs are perfect ‘all-rounder’ dogs due to their high levels of intelligence. These dogs originated from Germany and were used during wartime as messenger dogs and rescue dogs. German Shepherds are alert, loyal, and courageous, so perfect for all your security needs. They are also obedient and easy to train, making them fit perfectly into families. In fact, they are known to be incredibly protective over family members. On the flip side, be aware that they get nervous around strangers, they shed and bark a lot, and they can be quite costly to maintain.
