Have you ever noticed that some apps are completely essential for you to live your life? If they weren’t on your computer, there’d be hardly any reason to turn it on in the morning.

The purpose of this post is to look at the handful of apps that are more than just bloatware. These are real workhorses that completely transform your life and make everything so much easier. But what are they? Which apps should you never dispense of? 

Google Chrome 

Perhaps the most obvious example of an essential app is Google Chrome. The great thing about this browser is that it seamlessly integrates across all of your devices. You just need a single cloud login, and no matter where you are or what device you’re using, you can access the internet and benefit from the features you want. It also has really good security updates that come all the time, so it’s a great option if you are somebody who’s fed up with passwords being stolen. 

VLC Media Player

Another must-have app is VLC Media Player. This stalwart has been going for over 20 years, and it’s a great way to play all of the files on your computer without a big overhead. 

You can get a VLC portable download online pretty easily. Once it’s on your computer, it’s able to play media that is virtually impossible to play through any other app. 

Notion

Undertaking any project. It’s perfect for making notes and creating databases. It is also a good way to follow along if you’re on a digital course. You’ll find that Notion is more flexible than most word processing options. It also has greater functionality which means that it can link between various projects and even integrate with other software. 

TickTick

TickTick (not to be confused with TikTok) is a productivity tool that can be very helpful for a lot of people. Officially known as a task manager, it’s great for things like recurring tasks and reminders. You can also take advantage of its AI tools and use natural language inputs to streamline your workflows. 

If you’re somebody who’s prone to procrastination, then software like TickTick is the best option. It makes you want to get everything done. 

7-Zip 

7-Zip is another helpful option, although it’s becoming less common these days due to improvements in broadband and vibro-optic internet. Even so, it’s able to handle RAR, zip, and all other types of files. It has all of the built-in tools you need and doesn’t come with any ads, which is helpful. If you’re downloading anything, you’ll often find that you’re reverting to 7-Zip to unpack files and folders so you can use them on your computer. 

Spotify

Player, you can download your music offline and listen to it offline. You can discover new music easily and you can create soundtracks automatically using AI to help you with focus. It’s the ultimate productivity fuel for your computer. 

So there you have it. These apps have stood the test of time and proven their value over the decades.
