When they first started to rise in popularity, there were many people who looked down on video games as being not a valuable use of time – and even believing them to be harmful and damaging. However, as they have become more mainstream, this view has started to shift, and there is even talk of the benefits of video and online games. Still not convinced? Well, here is a list of some of the key benefits of online games. Stress Relief While watching TV has long been thought of as a perfectly fine way of relieving stress, this has not been the case for video games. However, as a form of escapism, video games can help to provide a distraction from the rigors of the real world. There is a natural sense of fun and excitement that they provide, which can be particularly beneficial at the end of a day that has been high in stress. With such a wide variety out there from baseball simulation games online to shoot em ups, there is plenty to choose from, allowing you to find your favorite. Development of Skills While watching TV is an entirely passive hobby in which you are not doing anything other than letting your eyes absorb the changing pictures, this is not the case with playing video games. There are plenty of skills that you develop along the way including improving your memory, boosting your concentration, and working on your analytical skills. You also have to take on an opponent and devise a strategy to defeat them, which is a very useful life skill to know in our world! Stay Engaged Playing video games requires you to stay engaged in the story and the tasks that you are presented with. This is not the case with watching TV, during which time people can simply be scrolling through the phones or typing on their laptops. If you lose your focus in a video game, more often than not, the result is that you are going to die – or at least your character is! Practice Teamwork With the advent of online games, video games no longer have to be a solitary activity. Instead, you can enjoy them with other players from all over the world and work towards achieving a set of common objectives, which can also prove to be an enormously satisfying and fulfilling way of spending your time. However, even if you are watching TV alongside someone, you are still only interacting in the most cursory of ways. As you can tell from the above list, there are plenty of benefits that playing video games offers ahead of watching TV. So, the next time someone chastises you for spending too long playing games, you can hit them with this list and make it abundantly clear why your hobby is more valuable than theirs! Who knows; you may even be able to convince them that video games are the future as well!
