Health Inspections for Children

It is important to keep your child healthy and happy. You can do this by having them checked out by a doctor regularly, which includes health inspections for children. Health inspections are the first step in keeping your child’s immune system strong and fighting off any viruses or infections easily. These checks include.

1) Go For A Dentist Check Up

When your child is at least two years old, take them to the dentist for their first checkup. This will allow you and your pediatrician time to decide what kind of toothpaste they need and if any teeth are growing in incorrectly or not coming through correctly. Visit your local dentists such as West Valley Dental, and experience a fantastic visit.

2) Eye Test Appointment

It is recommended that you have your child’s eyes checked at six months old and again before they start school. This will help to diagnose any vision problems early on. If there are any problems, the earlier they are caught, the easier it is to fix them. Some common vision problems in children are strabismus (misaligned eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), and ptosis (droopy eyelid). All of which can be treated if detected early. “The American Optometric Association recommends having a comprehensive eye exam by an optometrist every two years for all patients starting at age six months.” – WebMD.

3) Go For A Audiology Checkup

Children need to be able to hear well. If your child has a hearing loss, they will not be able to learn as well or communicate with you. You may think that because their speech seems fine, it means their ears are okay, but this isn’t always the case. “Most cases of hidden hearing loss in babies and young children go undetected.” – WebMD. When an audiologist checks out your baby’s ears, they will see if any sounds can reach each ear individually using special equipment called otoacoustic emissions testing (OAE). They also do impedance testing, which shows how much sound gets through when there is fluid behind the eardrum, like during colds or allergies. Hearing screening should be done at birth, three months old, six months old, nine months old, 12 months old, and 15-18months old.

4) Diabetes Tests

One in every 400 children is diagnosed with diabetes before they turn 20 years old. Early diagnosis is critical for preventing any long-term health problems. You can have your child screened for diabetes at their yearly checkup or during one of the other screenings mentioned above. “The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that all children be screened for type II diabetes mellitus between the ages of 12 and 18 years.” – Very Well Family.

5) Brain Function Test

Some children have problems with their brain function, which can be detected through a simple test. This test is usually done during the yearly checkup or when your child has one of the other screenings mentioned above. “The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) recommends that all children receive a baseline evaluation for neurological problems between ages three and five years.” – NINDS.

It is essential to keep your child healthy by getting them health inspections done regularly. These inspections include checking their eyes, ears, teeth, hearing, and brain function. If any problems are detected early on, they can be treated easily. Make sure you schedule appointments for these tests every day! Your child’s health depends on it.
