How to Save During the Holidays

The holiday season is upon us! Americans spend over 465 billion dollars on gifts during the holiday season. With that being said, many people will be looking for ways they can budget and save during this expensive time of year. By following the tips shown in this post you can be sure to make the most of this holiday season, without breaking the bank!

The first step is to create a budget plan. You should know who you need to shop for, and then set a spending limit for each individual. It is helpful if you think of some gift ideas prior to going shopping, this gives you the opportunity to find the deals! You should be tracking your spending as you continue checking off items on your list. Chime, a second chance banking company, has created a mobile banking app which makes it easy to track where your money has been spent. This can help you stick to your allotted amount!

Another great way to save is, to use a secret santa method, or white elephant method. This is great for larger families, and can save them time and money. There are also some excellent rebate sites where you get cash back after your purchases. This is why it is best to research gifts prior to heading out to the stores. If you are able to get the item on a rebate site, the savings can end up being huge, and you avoid the busy stores during holiday season!

You could also consider giving handmade gifts. Not only does this save you a lot of money, but handmade gifts tend to be much more sentimental. This article shares 55 creative gift ideas that can be made by hand. They may take some time to complete, but you can really save money in the long run. 8. Our family talked about doing a Secret Santa or some kind of budget for Christmas next year. All of us are at a point where it’s hard to shop for presents because we just buy what we need when we want it. None of us really care for the present part of it anyway 🙂 We’re having a kiddo this year, though, so I’m sure there will be plenty of presents for her 🙂

I think setting a budget is a wonderful idea. I personally think gift giving has gotten a bit out of hand. We’re always trying to outdo what we did last year and that just leads to debt and disappointment. My family and friends have decided instead of giving gifts, we’re going to give experiences. Whether that’s going on a hike or ice skating or a picnic. Something where we can enjoy each others company and explore!

  13. We use a budget every year and I try so hard to stick to it! Also, my husband’s family always does White Elephant for the adults and it’s pretty fun!

  14. I love the secret santa idea too. I wish I could have done the last year.

  15. Oh I love this! I needed it for sure haha! ❤️
