The mere thought of exploring a completely new career path can be exciting, but at the same time, it can also be somewhat scary. If you aren’t sure if now is the time for you to be making such a drastic change, then this is the guide for you.
Your Health is Declining
Think about it, is your job killing you? In the United States, over 120,000 accidents a year are attributed to working environments. If you are stuck in your office and you are working insane hours, then you may feel as though you have very little downtime to eat or even exercise. If you feel as though your health is on the line, then this is a clear signal that now is the time for you to make a change.
You don’t Feel Challenged
Do you ever feel as though you are coasting? Maybe you feel as though it is just difficult for you to get through the workday and you don’t know what to do about it. Either way, this is a sign that a change has to be made. When your career has switched to autopilot mode, you will not be learning or growing anymore. If this is the case, then now is the time for you to take a different path. If you do, then you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to develop yourself professionally.
Your Relationship is Suffering
Do you feel as though you are a workaholic? Maybe you feel as though you are working 80-hour weeks and that you just have no time to spend with your family. If this is the case for you then it may be that your career is literally sucking the life out of you. If this is the case with you then you need to seek out different career options if you can. When you do, you will soon find that you are able to help yourself.
Your Career doesn’t Match your Values
If you feel as though your career doesn’t quite match your values, then this is a major issue. You shouldn’t be flipping burgers if you have the aspiration of being a personal trainer, for example. If you want to help yourself then you need to try and get out there and achieve your goals. If you want to become a personal trainer, as the example above, then you can easily look into the American Sports and Fitness Association (ASFA). Things like this can help you enormously.
You Cannot be Authentic
If you bring your whole self to work, then this will mean you showing your authenticity, your humility and your passion. Nobody is perfect, and everyone is just doing what they can. If you want to be good at what you do, then you need to have the courage to speak up. You also need to be able to ask for help when you need it, and you need to connect with other people in a way that is genuine. This will allow you to be seen and it will also help others to be there for you. If you don’t feel as though you can do this with the place of work you are at right now, then this indicates that it is time for you to make a change.
