Make Ahead Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

No matter how I make mine, Strawberry Shortcake is always a favorite around here. I recently found myself in need of an easy but delicious dessert to take to an event and I headed straight to Dollar General. From their Rubbermaid takealong containers to their fresh produce, they have it all. I live a mile from our Dollar General Market so I probably go at least 5 times a week to buy groceries and see what sales they have going on. And they always have great sales going on.

But back to my dessert. I needed to make it the day before because I knew I wouldn’t have time the day of, so I kept that in mind when I went shopping. I’m always budget shopping so I took that into consideration as well. It wasn’t long before I decided to make a Strawberry Shortcake. I’ve made several this spring and have had nothing but praise for them so I knew it was going to be a hit. My Make Ahead Strawberry Shortcake is super easy to make, I can store it in the fridge for several (or more) days, and I don’t have to bake a thing or go anywhere else to find all of my ingredients.

What you’ll need
Rubbermaid Take Along container. I bought a 2 pack so I’d have an extra take along container for something else I plan to take.
1 premade Angel Food Cake (located near checkout counters)
4 packs of Strawberry Glaze (where fruit are sold)
2 bowls of Cool Whip
2 packs of Organic Strawberries washed and sliced

After washing and drying my Rubbermaid Take along containers, I added 1 bowl of a cool whip layer to one of them. I then layered 2 bags of strawberry glaze. On top of that, 1/2 of the strawberries. Then the cake sliced and diced. The whole thing.

Then I started all over (except for the cake which is staying nice and fresh between my layers).

Another bowl of Cool Whip.

2 more bags of Strawberry Glaze.

Then add the remaining strawberries to top it off.

Cover, keep in fridge until ready to serve. I can’t think of an easier or better dessert to make when you need something that looks like you spent hours on it (but you won’t).

When it comes to kids parties, I have a little more fun with my Make Ahead Strawberry Shortcake and serve them in individual jars.

This dessert would be perfect for upcoming camping weekends. I was looking for options that didn’t involve s’mores, thanks for the inspiration!

This is a great recipe for strawberry shortcake. I love shopping at Dollar General for everything. The idea of putting the strawberry shortcake in the mason jars to make single servings is a great idea. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Yes to this! Genius. Rubbermaid is magical. My dad’s favorite cake of all time is angel food cake. Personally, I like to spice it up like this. This is gorgeous!

My husband really likes strawberry shortcake so I make it for him more often during the summer. Your recipe looks divine! I’ll have to try it out and have him be my guinea pig for it (which I’m sure he wouldn’t mind).
