12 Skin Sins You Should Never Commit

12 Skin Sins You Should Never Commit

The skin is the largest organ on the body, and it’s crucial you take care of it as early on as possible. Not only will these keep you looking young, it’ll keep your skin as healthy as can be. Below, you’ll find 12 skin sins you should never commit – yet people commit them far more often than you’d like to think. Take a look and you might even find something you’ve been doing wrong:

  1. Sleeping With Your Makeup On

If you’ve slept with your makeup on in the past, it’s ok. Just vow never, ever to do it again. This is so bad for your skin. You may not be able to see any immediate adverse effects, but it’s honestly the worst thing imaginable. It’ll clog your pores, prematurely age you, and have many other negative effects. Plus, imagine it being rubbed onto your pillow and then sleeping on that same pillow the next night – ew! This is a skin sin you should vow never to commit again.

  1. Neglecting To Moisturize

Some people don’t even apply moisturizer because they think if they have oily skin or spots then they shouldn’t. However, this isn’t true. If you don’t moisturize your skin, your skin may overcompensate by producing more oil. In turn this can cause even more spots and make things even worse for you.

  1. Using Gross Soap

Many people don’t understand just how gross traditional soap is. A lot of it is made from animal fat – it doesn’t cleanse you, it doesn’t moisturize you, it simply makes you feel and look smooth. However, it has no real benefits and is actually quite disgusting. If you want to make sure you’re using healthy soap from now on, look into soap making recipes for yourself and see what you can come up with. Whatever you come up with is bound to be a lot better than shop bought stuff.

  1. Not Understanding Your Unique Skin Type

Everybody has a different skin type. Some people have dry, others have sensitive, some may have oily – some may even have a hybrid of two different skin types. You need to look to understand your own skin type, or you’ll never know which products to buy and what is going to work for you. Remember, skin type can change as we age or even with the season, so pay attention.

  1. Failing To Double Cleanse

Double cleansing is not being overzealous. In fact, if you don’t double cleanse you could be leaving stuff on your skin that should have been removed. The first cleanse takes away the top layer of dirt, makeup, and whatever else is there. The second cleanse gets into your pores and helps to give everything an even deeper clean. You should notice a big difference when you start to double cleanse.

  1. Using Your Products In The Wrong Order

Using your products in the wrong order means you’ll waste money as none of them will be doing what they are capable of. Your routine should look like this:

  • Cleanse
  • Tone
  • Thin serum
  • Thick serum
  • Moisturizer
  • Eye cream
  • Oil
  • SPF

Of course, you don’t need that many steps. One serum is fine, and some people prefer not to use an oil. You won’t need to use an SPF at night time, either. However, it’s always a good idea to apply the thinnest products to the thickest, leaving at least 3 minutes in between each product.

  1. Sleeping On A Rough Pillow

Silk and even satin pillowcases can help to keep your skin healthy as when you move in the night your face will glide over it, rather than be tugged this way and that. You may also notice an improvement in your hair. They may seem expensive, but the results are worth it.

  1. Using Makeup Wipes

Makeup wipes are not only awful for the environment; they don’t actually take all of your makeup off. Instead, invest in reusable cleansing pads. These pads reach deep within the pores to remove makeup, and you can even just use water. The difference is astounding, and you can then throw the pad in the wash to be used all over again. Makeup wipes are so last year!

  1. Not Giving Each Product A Chance To Settle

As we mentioned previously, you must give each product a chance to settle. That’s 3 minutes or more in between each one to ensure it’s sinking in. When introducing a new product to your skincare routine, make sure you give it at least 3 weeks to see the results. You may purge first, as this happens with lots of products.

  1. Touching Your Face All Day

Do you sit and absentmindedly touch your face all day? Become more mindful of this and stop. Wash your hands before if you must touch your face. You never know what you’re transferring.

  1. Underutilizing Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be applied in the morning to protect your skin, even during winter. However, you should also apply it throughout the day. Many people don’t reapply! Use a spray to make it even easier, and don’t forget your hands and other areas that may be showing.

  1. Picking Your Spots

When a spot is ready to pop, it will have a white head on it. If you must pop it, you should always have clean fingers or use a tool, and be as gentle as possible. You shouldn’t keep going until you’re bleeding. Make sure your technique is right too – if you push the wrong way you could push the dirt further into the skin. Pick too much and you might end up with scars and pockmarks on your face. Invest in a cream and use that instead if you can.
