Home Renovations: Top to Bottom

Home Renovations: Top to Bottom

When you buy a house, you don’t necessarily have to settle with your property of choice as it is. Renovation work is always an option and can help to drastically improve the property that originally fell into your hands. This can prove great for you if you’re planning on living in the property yourself, or it can prove profitable if you’re planning on selling up. But, what renovation work might you want to consider on your home? Well, here are a few ideas that you might like to consider!

Roofing

Sure, the roof is a pretty big feature of any property. Not only does it serve a hugely important functional purpose, but from the outside of your home, it has a huge impact on aesthetic too. But so many people don’t even consider the fact that they can change the type of roof their home has. There are numerous options. You can choose tiles, metal, or thatch. You can choose a standard sloped roof, mansard roofs, or any other style. So, take a look at various different types of roofing and determining whether the type already on your property is the type you like the most!

Extensions

Extensions create extra space within your home. If you need a new room and have the space surrounding your property to accommodate it, an extension to the side of your home (one, two, or more floors tall) can generally be added. If you don’t have any room to the sides of your property, you may be able to build upwards, adding extra rooms and space in this way.

Loft Conversions

If you want to make more room within your property, but don’t have any extra space to work with, you can convert your existing loft space into an extra room instead. This is an increasingly popular option that more and more people are opting for!

En Suites

If you have a master bedroom and would like to have an extra toilet and shower space added to it (rather than having to share the main bathroom with other members of the household), you may benefit from an ensuite. This may take a bit of work, as it involves changing the plumbing in your home, but it’s more than worth the effort and investment once the work is complete!

Opting to install an ensuite will be a great addition to your home. It will doubtlessly add value to it and once you have an ensuite you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. Not to mention the practicalities and additional benefits of having an extra shower, toilet, and washroom in the house. Alternatively, there may already be an ensuite and you just want to change the look and feel of it. Bathroom remodeling can make a huge difference to a property and can be a great way to inject a bit of personality into your new home.

If you don’t have an ensuite to remodel consider whether you need to or could install a bathroom or just W.C in the downstairs of your property. Again an additional toilet will add value and endless convenience to your home. It means not having to fight over who gets to use the toilet and wash facilities first in the morning and they are also incredibly practical if you have young or potty training children. It is always worth getting the professionals out to assess the space to see if it is feasible as installing a small toilet is considerably easier than a whole bathroom suite. You only need to cordon off a small section of a room and this can often easily be down where there is already access to plumbing. Utility rooms and garages are a great place to add additional toilets that already have water access and won’t mean you lose too much internal space.

Planning Permission

Remember, when making any major changes to your home, you may need to request planning permission from your local council. This is generally in place to make sure you don’t make any changes that can affect the lives of people living around your home in a negative manner, or reduce the value of other properties around your home. Generally speaking, as long as your requests are reasonable, they’ll be passed.

As you can see, you have a whole host of options when it comes to home renovations. If you want to alter your home in any way, chances are there’s a way to achieve this! Hopefully, the above advice has given you some ideas that you might eventually move forward with!
