How To Really Live In The Present

The world has become very fast-paced, and when we’re always moving from one thing to the next, it can be hard to really pay attention to what’s important. So, it’s important to try to live in the moment as much as possible. Living in the moment, or living in the present, means that we don’t worry about things we did in the past or things that may or may not happen in the future. Instead, we can just enjoy this moment and use it to relax and unwind. Here are a few ways to do it.

Be Minimalist 

We often think that having a lot of things is important, but it really isn’t. When we have more, we want more, which makes us try to compete with other people and do more than is good for our physical and mental health. 

So, the best way to live in the moment is to have as few things as possible. You can really focus on the important things in life, like relationships and family, when you have less stuff. When you have things, you remember them, which means you’re not living in the present. Instead, you’re thinking about the past. Even though a little bit of this is fine, too much of it can hold you back. 

It can be hard to get rid of things completely. If this is the case, why not pack them up and put them in storage so you still have them, but they aren’t in your way all the time? This could be the best way to get along with your new goal of living in the present much more.  

Be Grateful For What You Have

Part of being in the moment is being thankful for what you have right now (not in the past or in the future). If you’re always thinking about what you don’t have, you’re not taking the time to enjoy what you do have right now.

 One way to show gratitude is to make a list of all the things you’re thankful for and look at it every day. Try to write down at least three things you’re thankful for right now. You can also do a “gratitude rampage,” in which you write down as many things as you can think of in a set amount of time.  

Beat Your Addictions 

Addictions are hard on anyone’s mental health. Whether you’re addicted to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or something else, it will hold you back and keep you from living in the moment. You’ll always be thinking about when you can get your next fix. Not only are these bad for your mental health, but they are also bad for your body.

Living in the present moment can be made easier by surrounding yourself with individuals who make you feel content and happy. You’ll feel happier and more positive if you’re surrounded by helpful, upbeat people. As a result, you will be able to concentrate on what is going well right now rather than lingering on the past or the future. 

Enjoy Your Work

When work is hard and makes you tired, it takes away your ability to enjoy the present. You can’t really live in the present if you’re always looking forward to the end of the day or the week or if you dread Sunday night because you have to go to work the next day. Not only that, but you won’t do your best at work either.

 Instead, look for a job that you enjoy and don’t have to worry about or dread. This will make it much easier for you to live in the present and will make your life a lot more fun in general.

 Focus On One Thing At A Time 

While multitasking and working on numerous things at once may feel more productive, doing so makes it difficult to be present in the moment. Be conscious of how much more productive you are when entirely focused on a task. While doing anything that demands your full attention can initially appear overwhelming, it’s a far better way to be, especially if you want to live in the moment. 

 Give whatever you’re working on your undivided attention. When you find yourself procrastinating or checking your smartphone because you don’t feel like working on the task at hand, pause and bring your attention back to it.
