Dry eyes can be uncomfortable to say the least. If you’re currently suffering from dry eyes you may be wondering how you can go about easing the discomfort. 

Dry eyes can be caused by a number of things. Even if you get treatment for your dry eyes it’s important to understand its triggers so that the condition doesn’t return. Here are some tips for coping with dry eyes and preventing it 

Reduce Screen Time

One of the main reasons why people have dry eyes easy is prolonged use of screens. Many people spend hours at their computer at work and then they come home and spend the rest of their afternoon on their phone, tablet or watching tv. That is a lot of screen time!

It can cause your eyes to dry out severely. There’s a tendency when looking at screens not to blink and this can inhibit tear production. One way to deal with this is to take breaks from your computer occasionally. 

You can buy artificial tears over the counter at the pharmacy to help relieve your dry eyes as well. If you are overly concerned you can go in for an eye exam and ask your doctor about which brand you should use, and how frequently you should use them.

Place a Humidifier In the Room

Another way to relieve your dry eyes is to put a humidifier in the room. This tip is especially beneficial if you up have a home office. 

You can easily place a humidifier in the room without having to ask permission. You can also use an air cleaner that will filter out any dust or particles in the air to help prevent your dry eyes as well. 

Drink More Water

It probably will not come as no surprise to you that the more water you drink the more moist your eyes will be. 

Try to drink several cups of water per day but don’t overdo it. Too much water can also be detrimental. 

Also, try eating foods that are rich in water such as watermelon and cucumbers. 

Watch Your Diet

Your diet can go a long way in relieving your dry eyes. For example, when you eat the right fish it can help to moisturize your eyes. There are certain fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acid and these fatty acids cause oil glands in your eyes to function correctly and keep your eyes moisturized.

You can get omega-3 fatty acids from eating mackerel, sardines and salmon. You can also get this omega-3 fatty acid. From eating walnuts as well as flaxseed. 

If none of these options appeal to you, try taking omega-3 fatty acid tablets.

Find Relief

Keeping your eyes hydrated is essential. There’s no more uncomfortable feeling than having extremely dry eyes when you have lots of work to do and places to go.
