Iguana Repellent: What Is Iguana Tree Wrap and Why Do I Need It?

Iguanas are interesting lizards and can be a cool exotic pet. But what can you do if you live in a place where they’re considered an invasive species?

Iguanas can cause a lot of problems on your property and can even be dangerous. In places like Florida, they even fall out of trees when the weather gets cold.

If this is what you’re dealing with, there is a solution. Keep reading to find out more about what is iguana repellent and why you need it.

Why You Need Iguana Repellent

First, let’s talk about why you need iguana repellents. Iguanas are interesting, as we’ve mentioned before, but they can be dangerous and destructive.

Iguanas affect the local wildlife and ecosystem. They erode foundations and snack on native plants and insects.

What’s worse is iguanas can actually make you and your family sick. They can transmit salmonella through direct contact or through surfaces or even the water in your swimming pool.

While iguanas may be great to look at and learn about, they’re definitely not welcome on your property. Let’s look at what options you have to keep them away.

Iguana Tree Wrap

The best way to keep these unwelcome guests out of your yard is to make it uncomfortable for them. They love climbing trees so adding metal wrap to the base of your trees is the smart way to go.

First, measure the circumference of the trees you’re going to reinforce. Next, gather thin, flexible sheet metal.

Cut the metal to around three to six feet wide and up to eight inches longer than your circumference measurement. File down the sheet metals around the edges so there’s less of a chance of cutting yourself.

Drill holes into the sheet metal and position it around the tree. Wrap aluminum wire through the holes instead of drilling into your tree and damaging it.

Other Ideas

There are a few other ways to get rid of iguanas besides using tree wraps. The goal is to make them feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in your yard.

Take out any flowers or fruit trees that they like to eat. If you find an iguana burrow, fill it with rocks and cement to keep them from coming back.

Add reinforcements underneath your fence so they don’t dig their way underneath and into your yard. Visit iguanacontrol.com for more tips and tricks to get rid of any iguanas that still find their way into your home.
