Terri Ramsey Beavers There has been a little undercurrent of cooler weather the past couple of days and it’s putting me in a fall cleaning mood. Nothing boosts my spirits more than relief from the heat. I spent my weekend getting prepared to tackle everything I want to in the next few weeks and I didn’t forget that changing my pillows was as important as anything else I plan to do. I bought some cheap pillows when I moved into my new apartment and they are flat as boards. After spending months bedbound trying to recover from a compression fracture in my spine, with pillows that would not fluff up, even a little bit, I went on a pillow hunt and check out what I found.

Sleep is important any day of the week but especially when our body is trying to heal itself. Check out this post on how the body heals when you sleep. I fully believe that not sleeping well is the reason I’m healing at a slower rate than we thought I should heal. When I went to the doctor, he said it should take 6 to 8 weeks before the bone would heal itself. We’ve moved on past that and even though I’m able to get up and about for short periods of time, the pain isn’t a whole lot better than it was. I refuse to take pain medication unless I’m at a crossroads of either I take some or I go to the hospital to get my pain under control. That could be one reason why my pain persists, but I really believe it’s because I’ve not gotten the sleep that my body needs.
I’ve slept on my new GX Pillows for the past 5 nights and I was able to drive a short distance on Saturday because I felt more rested and when I’m not tired and anxious, my pain is always out of control (from failed back surgery and now my new compression fracture).
