Spending Quality Time Together: 7 Family Fun Ideas to Make the Most of Your Weekends

During the week you and your family are constantly on the go. With work, school, afterschool activities, keeping the house clean, socializing, and so much more you probably have little time to actually bond with your children.

If you feel like you have little time to spend with your children, then you should try to make the most of your weekends with them! There are tons of family fun ideas that you can do over the weekend to help create a strong bond with your children.

Your children will also be excited to spend time with you!

Keep reading for our guide to seven family fun ideas to make the most of your weekends.

1. Go to the Zoo

No matter what age your children are everyone loves the zoo! Plan a trip with your family to your local zoo or make a day trip of it and travel to one in another town.

Your family can visit each exhibit at the zoo and you can test their knowledge about each animal. Ask them what the animal is and what kind of noise it makes. You can even teach them about a few animals they haven’t seen before.

Older kids will love learning more about the animals at the zoo too! They can sit in on lectures or even watch zookeepers feed the animals. You can’t go wrong with spending time with your children at the zoo for the day.

2. Cook a Meal Together

Who says that spending time with your kids needs to be expensive? One way to bond with them is by cooking a meal together. This is an awesome way to teach them some new skills and you all can enjoy a delicious meal together.

First, you should spend some time prepping the meal that you want to cook. Look through cookbooks or Pinterest to find the perfect recipe that everyone will enjoy. Then head to the grocery store and pick up all the ingredients that you will need.

The more complex the recipe, then the more time and laughs you will get to spend together. Making a homemade pizza is delicious but does take lots of time!

3. Head to the Bowling Alley

When you were a child, bowling was probably a huge activity that you did on the weekends with your friends or family. So bring a little nostalgia back into your life by taking your children to the bowling alley on the weekend.

It will be fun putting on bowling shoes, picking out the perfect ball, and even eating some delicious bowling alley finger foods. Sometimes bowling alleys even have arcades so make sure to bring lots of quarters so your kids can spend some time playing classic arcade games.  Before you head to the bowling alley, make sure you have enough bowling towels to take with you.

4. Kids Escape Room

All the rage right now is heading to an escape room with your friends and family to try and escape under an hour! Going to an escape room helps you learn to work together in a fun and face-paced environment. Did you know they even have escape rooms that kids can do?

Going to a kids’ escape room is the perfect activity for any family who is looking for something different to do. Do a little research on the escape room that you plan to go to and make sure it is suitable for children. Sometimes they might be a bit scary or just too hard for children to comprehend.

Before going to an escape room make sure that your child will have the attention span to try to help you complete the clues. As long as you feel like your child is willing to participate, then you will all have a great time.

5. Picnic on the Beach

Another great activity that you can do with your children is taking them to the beach for a fun day filled with swimming and even a beach picnic. Spend the morning letting them help you make their favorite sandwiches and picking out the perfect snacks, then grab your bathing suits and head to the beach.

Spending the day at the beach is a fun activity for your family because there’s so much to do. You can relax on the beach, go for a swim, or even help each other build sandcastles. Just make sure to wear lots of sunscreens so no one comes home with a massive sunburn.

6. Play in Your Own Backyard

If you’re looking for something that you and your children can do all day, then look no further than your own backyard or even a local playground. There are tons of things that you and the kids can do right in your own backyard such as using your imagination, playing sports, or even playing a game of Simon Says.

Another fun activity to promote playing in your own backyard is by heading to the store and buying balls or other toys that you can use outside. In the summer, you could even set up a sprinkler and have everyone run through the water.

7. Get Artistic Together

Sometimes you might be looking for activities that help your children be more creative. Get some art supplies for everyone and let your imaginations run wild. You could color pictures, paint your own pictures, or even play with modeling clay.

Even if you aren’t artistic you and your kids will have a fun time creating something together. You can try to draw a portrait of each other or even do a contest to see who can draw the best picture of the family pet. The options are endless when it comes to creating art together.
