When to Suck It Up and Hire the Pros

We all love doing those DIY projects and handling renovations, remodels, and fix-ups on our own. It can be fun, challenging, and very rewarding to tackle things yourself with your own hands. The popularity of sites like Pinterest and home-improvement shows have made fixer-uppers all the rage, and it’s a great trend, as more and more people learn they can do just about anything.

There are some situations, however, when it’s not the best idea to go it alone. In certain scenarios, you could be risking injury or creating a health issue by not hiring a professional. Or you simply may lack the expertise needed to fix a complicated issue. When it comes to these situations, hiring a professional is always your best bet. Here are a few of those situations below:

Leaks and Health Hazards

You may have noticed a strange leak in the house or a funky smell in the back yard. You may have a sewage leak. As you can guess, sewage leaks are no joke. They’re smelly, a huge health hazard, and frankly, downright gross. Hiring a professional is a must – look up sewage cleanup companies in your area and get one to visit your home as soon as you possibly can to clean up the mess, fix any damage and restore your sewage system in good working order.

Water Damage

Whether it’s from flooding, a burst pipe, or some weather event, water damage is no joke. It can ruin a home with structural damage, destroy your belongings, and pose health risks such as mold and mildew. It’s something that needs to be cleaned up right away, and you’re likely going to need a professional to assist you.

Luckily, there are cleaning professionals pretty much everywhere that offer affordable rates and have the expertise needed to help you clean up your water damage and salvage your belongings.

Smoke Damage

Whether your home was previously damaged by a fire, or smoke damage comes from previous occupants smoking indoors, smoke damage can be unpleasant, smelly, and sometimes even pose health risks. Hiring a team of cleaners to help alleviate the smells and structural/visual damage from smoke is well worth the money. In some cases, they may also be able to salvage your belongings and items damaged by smoke as well.

Mold and Mildew

Many a homeowner has tried to remove mold on their own, only to find that they missed more of it or caused further damage to their home. Mold is not only dangerous, it’s pervasive, meaning that it can hide in places you don’t expect. Don’t assume you can find it all. In the case of black mold, it can cause major health problems and even pose risk of death. Hiring a professional who has experience removing and preventing mold is an investment you should definitely consider. Trying to do it alone may not be successful and you could risk injury or illness to yourself.

These are just a few areas in which hiring a professional is a very good idea. DIY projects are great, but it’s best to recognize that we can’t do everything on our own. Professionals exist for a reason! They’ve completed training and have the experience needed to tackle any issue in your home, giving you safety and peace of mind.
