A Guide to Dealing with Severe Foot Pain

Most of us will experience some pain in our feet now and then, especially on days where we spend more time on our feet than usual. Usually, this issue goes away on its own after some rest, but sometimes, foot pain becomes severe to the point of it becoming a serious problem. This could be due to many things – some genetic problem, an old or new injury, or some undetermined cause. Effective treatment for plantar fasciitis typically involves rest, stretching, orthotics, and possibly medical interventions like injections or shockwave therapy to alleviate pain and aid healing.  No matter why you’re experiencing severe foot pain, it remains an unpleasant situation, especially if you don’t know how to deal with it. That’s why we’re here to share some tips on how to do just that.

Change your footwear

It goes without saying, but if you’re wearing tight or uncomfortable shoes for most of the day, it’s bound to become a problem. This may also be the case if you’re wearing high heels every day, or for more than a few hours at a time. Ideally, you should be wearing supportive and comfortable shoes most of the time. If that’s not an option, try to make adjustments to your current footwear. Try wearing supportive soles inside your shoes, or wearing these neuropathy socks whenever you’re at home resting.

Go see a physiotherapist

If your problem isn’t going away, it may be that it’s more than just a superficial foot ache. It might be possible that you have hurt the muscles in your foot or even other areas of your leg. A physiotherapist will be able to help you get rid of some of this pain and strengthen those muscles. They may also give you exercises to do at home to relieve some of your pain. Keep in mind that foot pain can stem from something else. For example, bad posture could mean that there is more strain on your feet. Go for a massage

Very often, pain in our bodies is due to an abnormal amount of stress, pressure, or tension that builds up in certain body parts. Luckily, this is often quite easy to fix with a foot massage. Of course, you can attempt this at home, but it’s advisable to have a professional do it, as you may accidentally worsen your pain. Besides, you deserve to spoil yourself. Go see a doctor

If you’ve tried some of the abovementioned tips and you’re still experiencing severe foot pain, it’s likely time to see a doctor. If you don’t, you may never be able to fix it. Your doctor will be able to advise you on what may be wrong, as well as helping you find treatment methods. They may also be able to prescribe some stronger pain medication. Just be careful not to take too many painkillers. Simply schedule an appointment with your GP – if they suspect something more serious is wrong, they can always refer you to a specialist.
