When you’re going to spend such a significant amount on a gun and its respective accessories, you should do everything in your power to keep it as pristine as possible. Here are six ways to do so… 

Unload Your Gun 

Always make sure your gun chamber is fully unloaded before you begin any maintenance work. This should go without saying, however, it’s one of the most common mistakes that people make when looking after their guns. When you are not using your gun, it should always be unloaded. 

Remove Any Debris 

If you tend to carry your gun in a holster, it can get dirty from the environment. Make sure to remove any debris from the surface of your gun to avoid rust. Shooting enthusiasts often argue whether gun grease is a necessary part of the maintenance routine or not. Many think adding grease can adversely affect the gun’s function whereas others believe it’s essential to make the gun function as smoothly as possible. If you’re not sure whether your gun needs any grease, ask a professional at the shop about your specific model. 

Shoot Regularly 

Regular shooting practice will help keep your gun in great condition. By attending target practice, you’ll be able to tell if your gun is shooting accurately or not. If you feel like something is off whilst you’re shooting, you can take it to a repair shop for a second look. 

Follow the Manual’s Instructions 

Last but not least, it’s essential that you read the gun manual and follow the instructions vigorously. This precious booklet will teach you everything you need to know about your gun, including how to keep it in the best condition possible. 

Keeping your gun in top shape can help you become a better shooter and increase longevity. If you don’t look after your equipment, it could potentially break, or even worse, malfunction. A faulty gun is one of the easiest ways to incur a nasty accident.
