5 Things You're NOT Doing That'll Improve Your Skin

There’s no doubt you’re doing many things to improve your skin and keep it healthy. You’ve got a daily skincare routine and it works for you, but it sometimes feels like your skin is missing something. You might experience breakouts every now and then, or maybe the bags under your eyes seem more prominent. Whatever it is, there’s something you’re not quite happy about.

The best way to handle this situation is by looking at what you’re NOT doing as part of a skincare routine. Are you neglecting certain steps or treatments that will make a significant difference? This post will go through some common things you’re forgetting to do that’ll seriously improve your skin health.

Changing Your Pillowcases

You must be honest here, how often do you change your pillowcases? You won’t want to admit this, but it’s probably less frequent than once a week.

Not changing your pillowcases is one of the worst things you can do for your skin without realizing it. When you sleep, sweat leaves your face and gets onto your pillowcase, along with any natural oils or grease from your hair. It means lots of bacteria and dirt can collect hidden on the pillowcase, so what happens when you lay your face down every night?

Your skin starts collecting all of this bacteria, which is why you might wake up with spots every week. They go away, but keep coming back. Change your pillowcases once a week and flip the pillow over mid-way through the week to keep your skin as clean as possible.

Wearing Sunscreen Whenever You Leave The House

Sunscreen is one of those products you typically think about when it’s sunny. You’ll cover your body with it during the summer or when you go on holiday, but you need to put sunscreen on your face every day.

Why? Because the SPF protection stops UV rays from damaging your skin. This is one of the quickest ways to make your skin age, and it is so avoidable. Purchase a moisturizer with built-in SPF protection – loads of Korean skincare brands do excellent ones that feel so light and non-greasy, yet give you 30 SPF protection.

Apply your SPF before leaving the house – even when it’s grey and rainy. UV rays can pierce through clouds, so you need to protect your skin no matter what. It’s a simple anti-aging method, and future you will thank you dearly!

Getting A HydraFacial Treatment

HydraFacial treatments are all the rage – and for many brilliant reasons. This is a non-invasive, non-painful treatment that will give your skin a much-needed boost. The treatment begins by purifying your skin and removing dead cells, debris, and bacteria that are embedded beneath the outer layer. You can’t get this stuff using skincare products at home, which is why a treatment like this is so beneficial.

Following this, the beauty professional will infuse your skin with serums that are custom-designed for your skin. It means your skin gets a boost full of nutrients and things to help target its unique problems. You don’t need to book a HydraFacial every day, or even every week; it’s a once-a-month thing at most. Still, it’s something you’re not doing that you should be doing if you want to improve your skin.

Protecting Your Skin From The Cold

Cold weather can wreak havoc on your poor skin. It dries it out, leading to red patches and flaky skin. No matter how much you moisturize or hydrate your skin with toners/serums, you’ll still damage it when you head out in the cold.

Prevent this from being a problem by protecting your skin as much as possible. Wear scarves to cover some of your face and try to avoid exposing yourself to cold air. You’ll see a big difference and your skin will feel much healthier.

Forgetting To Exfoliate Once A Week

You’re forgiven for forgetting to exfoliate once a week. It’s something we all neglect, but there’s a reason we do so. We were told that exfoliation was bad, so we all stopped doing it. In reality, over-exfoliating is bad as it accidentally harms your skin. This doesn’t mean you should stop doing it entirely; just reduce your exfoliation to once a week.

Why do you need to start doing this again? Because exfoliating will give your skin a deeper clean than a daily cleansing solution. It removes lots of dead skin cells and can get rid of deep layers of grime. Your skin will appear a lot brighter and healthier with weekly exfoliation.

You’re not doing these five things, but you should start doing them from now on. Your skin will improve – and this leads to better confidence and a healthier and more youthful appearance.
