That is why it’s important to relax in the evening after such a day. For starters, stress is bad for your health in the long run – and you don’t want the irritability you’re suffering as a result of it to carry onto another day either.

If you’re feeling stressed, then try one of these seven techniques to help you relax at the end of a long day.

Turn stress off

You’ve got very little hope of relaxing if you’re still wired up and connected to the problems going on at work or in the world around you, yet according to studies nine out of ten Americans use communication technology in the hour before they go to bed. Switch off everything late in an evening – don’t watch the television, turn your cell phone onto silent and stay off social media on your tablet. Disconnecting from the world for a bit will help your body and mind to relax away from any worries you might have.

Wash stress away

You can almost literally wash the stress away with a relaxing hot bath. When we soak ourselves in the tub, our pores open up, and it helps release all the tension in our body which can be a major cause of stress. Throw in some bubble bath, light some candles and even pour yourself a cheeky glass of red, and you’ll have created the ultimate relaxation station. Whatever you fancy, leaving the troubles of Earth behind in favor of a place dreamt up in one of the 100 greatest fiction books of all time will soon have you relaxing at the end of a long day.

Listen stress away

There’s a reason that certain music is called calm and soothing and that is because it has a calm and soothing effect on the mind. Seek out a spot in your home where you can have some peace and quiet and listen to some soothing tunes which will help relieve the tension and stress from your body. Slower music that you can close your eyes to will help regulate your breathing, bring down your heart rate and leave you feeling much more relaxed.

Socialize stress out

Sometimes, what we need to beat stress and relax at the end of a long day is to socialize. Being around other people takes our mind off our own problems, makes us happier and can also provide a great laugh, and you know what they say – laughter is the best medicine.
