Air Mattress Choices For Camping

Air Mattress Choices For Camping

As mentioned in a previous camping post where I discussed my new tent, stocking up on camping gear is high on my list to do.  Selecting a tent took me a year and a half to decide.  I’m happy with my selection but to be honest, I’ve been searching for the best air mattress since 2019.  To me, it’s more important than a tent. Sleeping comfortably with my injured back is not easy to do.

After weighing the pros and cons of all of the air mattresses available, my decision came down to the height and the price.

Every single air mattress had good and bad reviews.  The main thing was they eventually all came apart at the coils or the coils busted and made the mattresses wonky.  It didn’t matter if they were a really expensive one or if they were in the cheaper range.  They all had the same problem.

Let me show you the ones I narrowed it down to, in no particular order, but didn’t buy, before showing you the one I did.

Knowing that I’m going to have issues with leaks, and tears in all of the air mattresses I selected (and all in general), I purchased the following air mattress.  If I’m going to have to replace it sooner or later, I’d rather it be in the lower price range. Here are several things that helped me make my decision.

EnerPlex Twin Air Mattress – Luxury, 16-inch, Double Height Inflatable Bed w/ Built-in Dual Pump

EnerPlex Twin Air Mattress - Luxury

  1.  It’s 16 inches tall.
  2.  It has a built-in pump.
  3.  I can inflate or deflate it to get the perfect comfort firmness or softness.
  4.  It’s only $69.99.
  5.  It has a warranty on it.
  6.  It’s returnable.

I bought this in a twin size because I need room to move about freely in my new tent.  My bones are like thin pretzels. Lays potato chips would probably be more accurate.  They snap and break just from movement.

Not only did I purchase an air mattress, but I also bought a 3″ Soothing LAVENDER Infused Memory Foam Bed Mattress Topper to go on top to bring my bed up to 19 inches, and because of the comfort it will provide. The fact that it’s lavender-infused helped me decide on this particular topper as well.  Having a memory foam topper is necessary with my back injuries to have the most comfortable bed possible, whether I’m at home or camping in the woods.

My next purchase will be a 4-inch egg carton topper to put under the mattress to make it even higher.  It’s difficult for me to get in and out of a short bed.  Everything I purchase for camping and glamping revolves around my back and my disabilities. Being disabled isn’t going to stop me from living my life to the fullest of my abilities.  I just have to do it in a safer and more comfortable way.

Be sure to check back as I go through each of my purchases and why I chose them, while I restock on my camping supplies.  My purchases are meant to help you with your own camping and glamping supply list. When I moved I gave everything away due to downsizing.  I’ve since moved from a 1 bedroom to a 3 bedroom apartment and now have a couple of extra rooms I can store my supplies in.
