Pop-Up
These are the tiniest of towable campers available, they can range between 8′-16′ in length. They are very light so you can pull them with almost any vehicle without any worries. Usually, you will have a canvas top that will give you the feeling of camping inside a tent but with more amenities than a tent will offer.
You might find a small kitchen, shower, toilet, and table or tables that transform into beds. They are very easy to store inside a garage if you want to keep it safe from mother nature when you are back home.
If you want to “glamp”, but are on a budget then this might be the way to go because you won’t break the bank but will have enough amenities for short getaways.
Travel Trailer
Travel trailers are one of the most popular types of RVs because they are lighter and can be pulled with most vehicles. They usually do not require a heavyweight truck to pull the load and do not need a special hitch to pull it. Travel trailers vary greatly in size, you can find anywhere from around 18′ to 40′ in length. You will have all of the amenities from your home, such as a bathroom, kitchen, dinette, living room, bedroom, and bunks.
Fifth Wheel
This type of towable camper will require a special mount in the rear of a truck bed. People like pulling this type of camper because the mount provides extra stability and you don’t feel it swaying behind the truck.
If you opt for a fifth wheel you have to make sure that your truck has the capability to pull the weight. Usually, these have three axles instead of two because they can carry more weight than other campers.
A fifth wheel can be as long as 45′ and some have a garage where you can carry a compact vehicle, motorcycles, or a golf cart. Toy Haulers are usually the largest and heaviest fifth-wheel campers available.
If you love tall ceilings and plenty of room then a fifth wheel might be the best option for you. They have large ceilings so you don’t feel like you are cramped. They also have up to five slides and can have all of the amenities just like a Class A motorhome except there is no cockpit.
If you love the fifth wheel idea but are worried that your truck will not pull the weight, you can look into getting a lightweight fifth wheel instead. These will still have taller ceilings and plenty of amenities but will not be as heavy.
