Styling Your Lounge

The living room is the space in the house where most of us retire at the end of a long day. We spend more time here than anywhere else in the house, and so you want it to be well styled and comfortable. You want inviting and welcoming after a long day at the office and this all comes from the way in which you style the space.

Your lounge should be somewhere beautiful and if one day you want to sell your house, it should be easy to do it. With the handmade coasters on the coffee table and the layers of rugs, you can really personalize the space to match your personality and how you feel about the world. If your living room is in need of a refresh, we’ve got some tips to help you to get there.

  • Go bold. You do not have to go gray with your lounge space. You can decorate and make it bold and colorful without having to be boring. With brighter accents, you can add a little more life to your living space, and this will ensure that you are able to properly modernize it. You don’t have to sit in a monochrome living space – especially when there are so many options to have fun with it.
  • Be strategic in your spending. You can’t always spend on amazing furnishings and you don’t have to. You can go to thrift stores and pick up pretty pieces of furniture to add to your lounge space. These will be more quirky than usual and you can really upgrade on your decor when you are strategic with where you spend.
  • Think about the flooring. Your flooring is the biggest space in the living room and you should look at it as another place for decorating potential. Think about it: the lounge is somewhere you should absolutely want to maximize and that means looking at what your flooring options are. You can use coverings creatively with rugs and different textures. It’s a good way to ensure that you break up a larger room, too, and you can differentiate the space easily when you think of flooring first.
  • Be smart about lighting. You wouldn’t think about it, but having more than one light source is a great way to add style to your lounge. Lamps and other light fixtures can help to warm the space in different ways without having to waste too much electricity. Think about the fact that lamps themselves are design elements and not fixtures in the room and you can really go all out. Whether you go modern or ornate, you can really enhance the space.
  • Be smart about sizing. You have to work to the space you’ve got and too many oversized pieces will really crowd the space. Furniture that’s too small has the same effect and you need to consider the form and function of the space. Look at the current trends for your lounge and you’ll end up with a space that looks great and functions well.
