Cutting back on carbs can help you manage pain in a number of ways. Firstly, evidence shows that a diet containing very little or no carbs at all is an effective way to lose weight and keep it off. In most cases, lowering your weight will reduce pain because you are putting less strain on your body. This is particularly true if you suffer from joint pain.

Reducing carbs in your diet also has an impact on your hormones and your nerves. Inflammation is a key contributor to chronic pain, and a low-carb diet can actually immune system receptors that cause inflammation. As a result, maintaining a low-carb diet over a long period of time can help to reduce pain symptoms. That doesn’t mean that cutting out bread will get rid of chronic pain entirely and there is no real way to do that. However, switching to a new diet could make it much easier for you to manage on a day-to-day basis.

At the moment, the research into low-carb diets for chronic pain is still in its early stages but the results look promising.

Different Types Of Low-Carb Diet

There are a few different types of low-carb diets you can try. Although they are all very similar and work on the same basic principles, there are a few differences.

The Carnivore Diet

The carnivore diet, as the name suggests, is a diet that consists mainly of meat. It is designed based on the idea that early humans ate mainly meat and fish, without eating many carbs. It is a diet enjoyed by Jordan Peterson and other notable figures, and it involves eating mainly meat, with some dairy, to begin with. No carbs are consumed at all with this diet and as time goes on, the dairy is replaced with more meat.

The Keto Diet

The keto diet is one of the most popular low-carb diets. Although it is similar to the carnivore diet, you can also include some fibrous vegetables in your diet, as long as you avoid anything that is too carb-heavy, like potatoes. Often, people will start with a blend between the two diets, known as carnivore keto.

If you are looking for a quick fix for your chronic pain, low-carb diets will not provide that. However, they can improve your overall health and reduce inflammation, which makes it a lot easier to manage chronic pain on a day-to-day basis.
