There’s scarcely anything better than fresh herbs in my recipes. I’ve always grown herbs and I give my mom full credit for that. We always had a garden growing up and she always had herbs planted around the yard. I loved going outdoors and cutting fresh herbs for her to use in her recipes and when I had my own family, I wanted them to experience the same great tastes as I did. One of my favorite herbs to grow indoors is Basil. It does well in a well-lit window and because we live in Georgia and it doesn’t get too cold here, Basil can survive in my windows year-round. Plus I use Basil in a lot of recipes.
I knew that I wanted to add a growing kit to my holiday gift guide because growing plants, veggies, fruit, or herbs is such a relaxing thing to do and it gives a sense of accomplishment to anyone that loves to garden whether it be a large outdoor garden or a container garden when you can see your efforts paying off. There are a lot of herb garden container ideas out there but I found one that stood out from all of the rest, on Uncommon Goods. What I really loved about it is that it’s a self-watering herb garden kit so I don’t have to worry about watering it when I’m traveling. IMO it’s the perfect gift idea for experienced gardeners or anyone who wants to take up the hobby of herb gardening. Winter is the perfect time to start herbs indoors where I live, so by summer, they’re nice and big and ready to be transplanted outdoors.
I followed the directions for my new self-watering herb planter and in mere minutes, I had it sitting on my kitchen windowsill waiting to germinate and start growing. I will share photos on this post as it grows, so be sure to bookmark my post to follow along with how it’s coming and to see what I decide to do with it once it’s time to transplant it. I’ll be using it in my yearly homemade spaghetti sauce canned goods and if you want that recipe, just click on my link.
You can order your own Self-Watering Veggie Kit on Uncommon Goods and there are plenty of herbs to choose from if you don’t use Basil very much. As you start or finish your Christmas shopping this year, don’t forget to purchase Self-Watering Veggie Kits for your nature-loving or foodie gift recipients. Be sure to check out the Grow Your Own Herbal Tea Kits as well. Afternoon tea and scones would be perfect with fresh Bee Balm, Lemon Basil or Mint.
If you want to know what else I’m crushing on at Uncommon Goods, check out my apartment wishlist on the above menu. Happy shopping.
Wow i have never heard of anything like this. This is such a good idea.
This is absolutely helpful, not just for green thumb planter but also to those who wants to start planting.
I love basil leaves and usually eat them with stir fried chicken Thai style or use it for topping for pho noodles. This looks like a great kit to grow basil and little attention needed.
This is an amazing gift idea for any plant lover! I know a few people who would love to receive this!
